Notre-Dame de Senanque abbey is still occupied by a community of Cistercian monks.
They are happy to welcome you…


Services celebrated by the monks are open to the public.
They take place in the church or in the chapel: please, get information on arrival in the abbey.

Thank you for respecting the prayers and the climate of meditation: do not go in or out during the celebrations.
No photos, no videos, no recordings. No visits during the services. Proper dress code and behaviour.

For those who want, the church is open all day for silent prayer.

At the moment, the service of none at 14:30 is not open to public.

From the 1st of February to the 12th of November 2017 included:
- 10:00 to 18:00 from Monday to Saturday 
- 14:00 to 18:00 on Sundays and Catholic feasts (the Thursday 25th of May 2017, the Tuesday 15th of August 2017 and the Wednesday 1st of November 2017)

From the 13rd of November 2017 to the 31st of January 2018 included: 14:00 to 18:00 every day (except the 25th of December, Christmas).

The bookshop is closed from the 9th to the 22nd of January 2017, the Holy Friday (14th of April 2017) and the 25th of December (Christmas).

Purchases contribute to maintain the abbey.

Notre-Dame de Senanque Abbey is still a Cistercian monastery, since 1148, and not a museum or a tourist site. It’s allowed to walk around the valley and the abbey. The community of the monks gives you the opportunity to follow a guided tour, in French only, inside the 12th century buildings: you can see the church, the cloister, the chapter-hall, the warming room and the ancient dormitory.

Proper dress code and silence are required. No cyclist gear.

Unguided tours

Between 9:45 to 11:00, for individuals only
Sundays, the 14th of April (Holy Friday), the 25th of May (Ascension Day), the 15th of August (Assumption), the 1st of November (All Saints’ Day) and from the 13th of November to the 31st of January. Visitor’s number is restricted at peak times. Silence is required. Visitors can get information in a brochure translated into 8 languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and Chinese).

Guided tours

Guided tour, in French only, lasting 1 hour.
50 visitors maximum per group.

Seeing as there are many stairs in the medieval abbey, the access for disabled persons is particularly difficult and impossible with a wheelchair.

Dogs and other pets are not allowed inside the abbey (except assistance dogs).
